Staam Beginnings:

Staam group photo 2009

Founded as a group of Jews who loved to sing after Shabbat dinner, this a cappella group has grown into a family that performs all over the country.

We chose the name "Staam" in 1997. Hebrew slang for "just because," Staam has become our motto. We sing for the love of it, for fun, for friendship, and mostly, just because.

We perform locally at anything from Bat/Bar Mitzvah parties to international organization meetings. We also can be found singing on campus, with other campus a cappella or Jewish groups.

Quick Facts:

  • We are about half Jewish, half goyish.
  • About once every month we have a Staam Shabbat at someone's apartment, where we cook, schmooze and enjoy each other's company!
  • We get a lot of WU juniors and seniors wanting to join Staam because it is relaxing and rewarding (and most end up wishing they had joined sooner)
  • We just finished our third CD, Tree of Life, so we have a lot of music to share with you!
